Being born and raised as a sportsman and an artist in South Florida has given D.Friel a unique perspective.
“Like many others raised in the Sunshine State, I grew up fishing the Everglades, estuaries, lakes and Florida Keys. Some of my greatest memories growing up were diving, surfing and fishing our local piers and reefs and heading offshore. I’ve even spent my college years fishing the Gulf Coast. I still enjoy doing it all now as an adult, as do many of my friends. Throughout everything, I’ve been able to appreciate God’s majestic work and I’ve tried to paint it all as best as I can. When you do that you start to see and feel things differently. After a while, a certain passion and responsibility develops. But, over time, we’ve seen changes. And sometimes it can feel like our resources are shrinking. We are at a crucial point right now in conservation to preserve and restore our coastlines, reefs and wetlands the right way. It’s not just that it’s worth saving for our kids and future generations… it’s our duty to do so.”
Conservation Mission
It’s our mission to inspire and promote the safeguarding of our land and keep our waters clean for current and future generations to use, enjoy, explore and steward. As Connected By Water® we do this by raising awareness, promoting education and taking action through a variety of creative projects and promotional events with our like-minded brand partners. We’re passionate about what we do and we bring a unique approach and action plan to the table. We are proud to do the necessary work and hopeful that we can and have made a difference.
Artistic Ventures & Collaborations Supporting Conservation
Many of our artistic ventures and collaborations have had a serious impact by generating and contributing funds that back meaningful and long lasting eco-driven programs; particularly the current work being done with Star brite’s Project SeaSafe. Whether directing our energy towards fisheries and mangrove management, coral reef out-planting or oyster and clam restoration initiatives; we make sure that all our efforts directly impact “boots in the water” projects and authentic organizations.

By way of our podcast we showcase some of the biggest and most prolific names in the world’s fishing, diving, waterman, sportsman and conservation communities. The Connected By Water® Podcast’s goal is to highlight the fabric of that community and culture with a focus on the preservation and restoration of our natural resources; primarily in the great state of Florida, but also beyond.
